Cuddliest Kitty Slippers

6a014e8c14bd09970d01910452d1b5970c-800wi
These cuddly little kittens are the sweetest of companions, keeping you both cozy and entertained during those chilly moments when you need companionship the most. Although this pattern has been developed for an adult or teen, you could easily substitute any children's size basic slipper pattern for the foot portion, then add my head, ears, and tail if you are making these for a child.
____________________________

Size: One size, adult or teen.

Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash in a nice kitty colour, 1 ball (200 metres).

Tools: One pair of size 5 mm straights for the body/slippers; one pair of size 3.5 mm dpts for the head, ears, and tail; darning needle; embroidery thread and embroidery needle; small amount of scrap yarn for stuffing.

Let's knit!

(Toe)

Row 1: p1, [k1, p1] to end of row.

Row 2: k1, [p1, k1] to end of row. Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 1 1/2 inches ending on wrong side row.

Next Row: work ribbing for 7 stitches, slip1, k1 and psso, k1, k2 tog, work 5 stitches of ribbing, slip1, k1 and psso, k1, k2 tog, finish row in ribbing. 25 sts.

Next Row: work ribbing for 7 stiches, p3, work ribbing for 5 stitches, p3, work ribbing for 7 stitches.

Last Row: work 6 stitches, k2 tog, k1, slip1, k1 and psso, work 3 sts, k2 tog, k1, slip1, k1 and psso, finish row in ribbing. 21 sts.

Break yarn. Remove remaining stitches from needle by weaving yarn through and pulling tightly to close and form the toe. Secure firmly. Fold cast on edge in half with right sides together, and sew up the top of the foot leaving just enough space for your foot to go in. Sew up the heel, secure, and turn right side out. Make the second slipper.

Kitty's head (make 2)

Using the 3.5 mm needles, cast on 7 sts.

Row 1: Purl.

Row 2: k1, [m1, k1] to end.

Repeat last two rows once more.

Work 3 rows in stocking stitch.

Next row: k1 [m1, k3] to end.

Work 9 rows in stocking stitch.

Next row: k1, [k2 tog] to end.

Work 5 rows.

Next row: k1, [k2 tog] to end.

Last row: Purl.

Break yarn, thread through remaining stitches and pull tightly. Secure.

Join seam leaving an opening. Stuff and close opening.

Kitty's ears (make 4)

Using size 3.5 mm needles, cast on 5 stitches.

Work 6 rows in garter st.

Row 7: slip 1, k1, psso, k1, k2 tog. 3 sts.

Row 8: slip 1, k2 tog, psso. Cast off.

Kitty's tail (make 2)

This is just a basic i-cord. Using the 3.5 mm dpts, cast on 4 stitches.

Row 1: Knit. Without turning your work, slide the stitches to the other end of the needle.

Row 2: Knit by bringing your yarn behind your work and starting with the first stitch. Give everything a good tug to maintain the shape and tension.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until tail is desired length (3 to 4 inches). Cast off.

Finishing

Attach ears to head. Using embroidery thread, stitch eyes, nose, and whiskers to create the face. Attach head firmly to top of slipper and attach tail to heel. Adjust opening of the slipper if required to ensure a secure fit. Weave in ends and repeat for second slipper.

Wear these little sweeties with great joy. For optimum results, ensure to lavish them with massive amounts of attention as required.
